We invited our friends Raphael and Atsouko and their baby over for an early dinner at our place. Our chef Berliner made a delicious meal (as always). Our guests were impressed by our restaurant quality food. There's nothing like butternut squash soup, with roasted beef and mashed potatos.

Smokin Bday
Push the Wagon
Todd and I got Lucas a Radio Flyer wagon for his birthday. Since he starting to cruise furniture and pull himself up on everything, we knew he would like pushing this thing in our long hallway. We couldn't resist giving it to him early. See the little guy go off.

a letter from dad...
how do you do it? how do you capture, store, preserve such a precious thing? what check register can afford such a credit, so big as to even hint at the proper value? how do you savour, with any justice done, the waves of joy that radiate, brilliantly invisible, like gamma rays, from the quietest, darkest moments of connection with your family?
as i rock gently, holding lucas, pressing every inch of his warmth against my chest, i am awestruck by the awesome power of love. in these moments, with the wild hairs of his head tickling my cheek, like a silly playing card rapping ridiculously against the spokes of a spinning bicycle tire, held to task by a tyranically genius cloathing pin, i feel flush with happiness, fierce with pride, and humble with grattitude. goosebumps race up and down my arms and a chill, no less shaking than the greatest fright, and no less uplifting than the greatest elation, heralds the message that what i have is a gift as precious as any that a man can recieve. and while my gift came in the form of you, my son, in these moments i hope, against all hope, for the entire world to know such a gift; not alike in form, but alike in portence. for if that were the case, the heart of humanity would swell, charged with six billion stars spewing brilliance like the universe has never seen, into trancendence, into peace, into a future of radiance found in quiet dark moments like these.
anyways, the power of love, the power of cloathing pins and the "tack-a-tack-a-tack-a" of summer day games, the sweat and gentle breath puffing out from sleeping lips, the promise of future shenanigan, discoveries and revalations, all can remind us of each other, of our children, of our parents, of our friends, and, most powerfully, of ourselves. that power can radiate, stronger than gravity, from a joyful heart, and pull the infinite possibilities of the universe into the smallest moments of every day. thanks little dude and thank you babe; you won't even remember falling asleep, or this night in particular, but i will always remember what both of you mean to me. you rock. always.
love, dad

Teeth Round 2
This morning Todd and I noticed that there were some white buds where his top 2 teeth would be. We think they are on there way, which means 2 more teeth for him since he only has 2 bottoms right now. Recently, he has refused to eat any of the jar baby food and insists on feeding himself bits of food. I thought he was on a hunger strike and when I went out with some of the mom's in Lucas' playgroup, they told me to feed him real food. He tried some chicken fingers, cheese and some bread and gobbled it all up. This has forced me to make him "real" food, like cooked carrots, peas, fruit, chicken. I guess he wants to be a big boy and feed himself. I'm missing his baby months already. I can't believe it's going so fast!

L.A. Weekend
We took a weekend trip to LA to visit our friend Agnes who has moved there recently. We flew with Hedda & Leonard, which was nice because we had 2 extra sets of hands to carry Lucas and all his gear. We stayed at this cool hip hotel close to the airport, ate at some good restaurants and even had some time to visit one of Todd's good friend Raj who lives in Santa Monica. Here are a few pics from that weekend.
